30-day Workout Challenge Update: Week 4!

Hello Everyone! I can’t believe it’s over!! I did my last workout this morning, and I have officially completed the Jillian Michaels Ripped In 30 DVD! This is actually the longest I’ve ever kept up any exercise program. I usually slip up around the third week, and while it was a SERIOUS struggle when I started week 3, I kept it up because I knew other people in the challenge were pushing through it right with me!!

I learned a few things this week through this experience! I’m going to share some of them:

1.) You aren’t a failure if you keep trying.

On the first week, I took SO many breaks. It took me about 35 minutes to finish a 20 minute workout! But every day I did it, I got stronger, and the breaks became less frequent!

2.) Pain is necessary for growth.

I’ve never been the type to want to ‘feel the burn’. I don’t like to hurt during a workout. once I started to feel the first tingle of pain, I would take a break. I found that if I just pushed through it, I gained more strength for the next time, and I felt better about my workout! The only way we can improve is if we get out of our comfort zone!

3.) If you don’t want to, MAKE yourself do it!

SO many days I wanted to skip the workout! But I knew one day would turn into two, and two into a week! So I forced myself to work out! 30 minutes actually go by pretty fast when you just take the first step and begin!! I’m so happy I did. Now the month is over! *fist pump*

I’ve been keeping track of my measurements, I’m not sure if I’ve lost many inches, but I do feel and look more toned!

Arms: 11″

Chest: 36″

Waist: 30″

Hips: 41″

Thighs: 23″

To keep myself on the straight and narrow, I’m going to begin Jillian Michaels’ 30-day Shred! Yes, I’m a Jillian fan now. She makes it hurt, but she gets results!

My next self-challenge!

30-Day Workout Challenge Update: Week 3!

Hello Everyone! Well week 3 of Jillian Michaels’: Ripped In 30 is complete!! Let’s be honest, it doesn’t get ANY easier! This week had my thighs and arms SCREAMING! Strangely, I am coming to love Jillian more than I hate her for making my body hurt. Only one more week left! I won’t even wish for an easier week, I already know it won’t happen.

The 30-day program is really beneficial for me since I tend to get bored and inconsistent with my workouts after a couple of weeks. Changing the workout every week keeps things fresh. In fact, I can’t believe I’ve kept it up this long! I think once I finish week 4, I’ll start Jillian Michaels’: 30-day Shred! I’m inspired! One more week, time to get serious!! If you want to get more information about the challenge, check out my friend Kenda at Let’s Get It! fitness blog!

Incidentally, I will be running (more like walking/jogging) my first 5K next Sunday! The mayor of Nashville is hosting a 5K walk/run for the public. It’s called the Mayors Challenge. There were free training groups in different areas of the city for the past nine weeks. Since I just recently found out about it, I haven’t been training, but I’m gonna show up anyway! I’ll post pictures of the 5K and post my thoughts of my final week of the 30-day workout challenge next week!

30-day Challenge Update: Week 2!

Hello Everyone!! WHOOO!! Week 2 is finished!! Week two is NO joke!! Jillian really turns up the heat! The mountain climbers and plank-jacks almost did me in y’all! This week there was a lot of focus on biceps, triceps, and back muscles. Of course, she doesn’t neglect the abs, thighs and butt! I really like these workouts because they seem to be very well-rounded and challenge me every week. The exercises are challenging, but not so hard that you want to give up. The endurance gained from week 1 is VERY helpful! Circuit three (the last circuit in each workout) seemed to arrive much faster than it did in week 1. I can definitely see my back, arms, butt, and legs toning up already! My abs still need a lot of work though, hence my operation name, #OperationByeByeBelly LOL! As promised, here are my measurements for week 2.

Arms: 11″ (both) – .5″ since week 1, day 1

Chest: 38″ + 1″ since week 1, day 1

Waist: 32″ No change since week 1, day 1

Hips: 43″ + 1″ since week 1, day 1

Thighs: 23″ (both) – 1″ since week 1, day 1

Alright! So I see some change happening! I’ve got to work a little harder on these abs though! I’ll update on week 3 next Friday!

30-day Workout Challenge Update!

Hello Everyone! Well, week 1 of the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 challenge is over!! I won’t lie, it was tough! Especially starting from not really lifting weights (at ALL). I was so sore for the first few days, but by the end of today’s workout, I was able to complete the whole thing without as many breaks, and I’m not sore anymore! Week 2 won’t be a cakewalk, but I’m ready! I’m ready to see results! I’ll be taking measurements again at the end of week 2. if you would like to join, its not too late! Go to LGI Fitness blog and subscribe!! See you all in another week!

She's scary, but I'll love her by the end of the challenge!!

Week one starts today!! I’ll be taking before and after measurements to record my progress. Every week, I’ll post how my workouts and meal plans have gone. I’m so excited! I did the first workout today, and MERCY!! Jillian works muscles that I didn’t even know existed! I won’t lie to you and tell you it was easy, Jillian kicks butt (understatement of the year). I took multiple breaks (SMH), but I’m sure that by the end of the week, my endurance and strength will have improved, and I’ll be ready for week two! It’s not too late to join the challenge! In fact, Kenda has a DVD she’s giving away free! The group of people who have joined the challenge are encouraged to check in by commenting on Kendas blog, or on FB. 30-day Workout Challenge!!

Hey everyone! This post isn’t directly about hair. This time, it’s about exercise! Being physically active is mostly good for your body, but can be beneficial for hair too! Getting more exercise gets blood pumping through the body, taking oxygen and nutrients to all the cells. Including the cells in your scalp! This would be like using scalp massage to bring blood to the hair follicles. The more fresh blood you get pumping through your body, the more nutrients and oxygen your follicles will get! Producing healthy hair that grows! There’s no excuse not to do it, so get to it!! *I’m speaking to myself too!*

My friend Kenda at YOU can GET IT fitness blog is starting a 30-day fitness challenge that begins Sunday, October 16th! We will be doing the Jillian Michaels Ripped In 30 DVD. I tried it today just to see what was up, and O_O… It’s rough, to say the least. But with consistency, I know I can get through it! If you would like to join the challenge, check out Kenda’s blog!

Look at her... With that smirk on her face. She KNOWS she's about to whoop some tail!

What about you all? Have you found exercise helpful to your hair health?
