Hello everyone! The Review Crew is back with a review especially for naturals with ‘type 4′  or kinky/tightly coiled hair! Today The Review Crew tries the Pre-Wash Curl Definer, and Sweet Buttah Twist Cream by Curl Prep! Curl Prep is a line of all-natural hair care products that are especially made to elongate kinky/tightly coiled natural hair! Since Curl Prep is for our ladies with tight curls, only Kenda and Judith tried these products. With that, let’s get right into the review!

This product will immediately prevent shrinkage by 30 percent and give your curls definition. Great on new growth for those who are transitioning. There are no chemicals in this product! This is not a perm, it is not a texturizer and is NOT permanent. There are no hidden words on the label that really are chemicals. Hair snaps back to nap after 2-3 washes!

You can also apply Sweet Buttah to wet hair and make two strand twists for a more crinkly look. Sit under the dryer until hair is bone dry. Leave twists in or take them out. Pop and tease ‘til you like what you see!

Now, meet the members of The Review Crew!

Kenda- My hair is very thick with medium-tight coils. To use a scale I am 4a/4b. I am transitioning out of the TWA stage so I feel it is at an awkward length! I have had severe dry scalp/psoriasis and have yet to find a product that helps the dryness for an adequate amount of time.

The Review Crew: Kenda Reviews Curl Prep!

1.)    Introduce yourself! (name, what do you do, how long and why did you go natural)

Hi! I’m Kenda! I am a [now] self-employed freelance writer and fitness blogger

www.lgifit.com *PLUG*

I have  been natural for seven months , I transitioned for three years and big chopped last July because of my daughter Mia.

2.)    Please describe your hair for us! (texture, length, thick/thin, any problems with dryness, dandruff, etc)

My hair is very thick with medium-tight coils. To use a scale I am 4b/4c. I am transitioning out of the TWA stage so I feel it is at an awkward length! I have had severe dry scalp/psoriasis and have yet to find a product that helps the dryness for an adequate amount of time

3.)    First off, what is the product’s smell/consistency?

The Sweet Buttah smells tropical  and has a the consistency of a light lotion.

The Pre-Wash Curl Definer smells earthy and organic. It smells like nothing was added artificially just as it claims! The consistency is also light but its chunky? I’m not really good at explaining consistency!

4.)    How did you use this product?

I used it just as the card that came with the products suggested. On dry hair I applied the curl definer, washed it out and then used the Sweet Buttah. I did my normal twists after all that.

5.)    Did the product meet its claims? How did your hair/scalp feel afterward? Describe any positive/negative effects.

As soon as I put the Curl Definer on and finger combed it through, I immediately saw a difference in length and text Holly and Judith so excited! It made my hair look like a perfect wash and go! I was so happy with the first step that I left it on longer than the five minutes hoping it would make the effect stronger. It actually started to burn my scalp (my scalp is pretty sensitive) so that didn’t last long! The second time I left it on for the allotted time and the same thing happened. It really felt like I was getting a relaxer.

My twists outs usually make my hair go out instead of down, with this process my hair was hanging a lot more than usual! I also got pretty good definition considering the hold of the Sweet Buttah didn’t seem as strong as a shea butter. Even when I use the Sweet Buttah w/o the Curl Definer my curls seem to hang longer!

6.)    Would you buy this product, and use it again?

I would buy the Sweet Buttah again especially knowing [for me] that my curls are elongated with it even if I don’t use the Curl Definer

7.)    Any final info you’d like to add?

I’m still a little concerned about the scalp burning. It took me to a time I don’t want to go back to!!

The Review Crew: Judith Reviews Curl Prep!

2-strand

1.)    Introduce yourself! (name, what do you do, how long and why did you go natural)

My name is Judith. I am a doctoral student in a biomedical science program. I’ve been natural since May 1st, 20011. I went natural because I found strength and empowerment in embracing natural BLACK beauty as it is.

2.)    Please describe your hair for us! (texture, length, thick/thin, any problems with dryness, dandruff, etc)

I have 4b/4c textured curls that are about 4 inches long, and very thick. I do have dry hair but deep conditioning on a regular basis keeps it moisturized.

3.)    First off, what is the product’s smell/consistency?

Curl Prep pre-wash: does not smell like anything. It has a thick gray jelly like consistency

Curl Prep Sweet Buttah: Smells sweet. Thick and creamy white consistency.

4.)    How did you use this product?

I used the pre-wash on dry hair as instructed right before a wash. Before washing it out I already noticed the difference in my curl pattern. After washing out the pre-wash with shampoo and conditioning my hair I used the  sweet buttah for a two strand twist and set my hair in rods.

5.)    Did the product meet its claims? How did your hair/scalp feel afterward? Describe any positive/negative effects.

This product claims to elongate your curls. It did work!

Positive: It was an adequate conditioner (I also used a leave in). My hair felt soft and not too greasy. The sweet buttah was light on my hair and did not weigh it down. I also like the light sweet sent.

Negative: I left the Pre-wash in for 10 minutes (rather than the 5 instructed) and my scalp started burning. I had to wash it out quickly….side eye!

6.)    Would you buy this product, and use it again?

I would use the sweet buttah product again but not the pre-wash.

7.)    Any final info you’d like to add?

I like the idea of having extended curls right after a wash but I was concerned about the Pre-wash burning my scalp. I went natural to have healthy hair. I was concerned that the ingredients might not be good for your hair. A natural remedy should not burn your scalp if you leave it in 5 minutes longer than instructed.
