DIY: Ayurvedic Face Mask!

ocm

Hello everyone!! When I began the ayurvedic challenge, I originally planned to only change my hair regimen. However, the more I read about ayurveda, the more I wanted to try it in other parts of my life as well. So I decided to try incorporating ayurveda into my skin regimen. Let me give you some background on my skin situation…

Ayurvedic Challenge: Regimen Update!

Herbs and Spices

Hello everyone! It’s been 4 months since I started my personal Ayurvedic Challenge, and I can honestly say that it’s going great! I’m not using any synthetic products at all. Only ayurvedic herbs, butters, oils, and all-natural ingredients. I struggled in the beginning with the lack of silicones and tried to replicate the ‘slip’ caused by conditioners with oils. The result was my hair becoming an oil slick! Clearly NOT what I want. I have finally gotten my act together, and settled into a regimen that has been working very well for me!

Every week:

Pre-poo with Amla/Bhringraj oil

Cleanse with Shikakai (sometimes Aritha)/Amla/Neem powders mixed with water. I usually put the solution/paste on my scalp, massage it in, and let it sit for 30-45 minutes under a plastic cap. Rinse well!

Condition with Whipped honey butter, the avocado dc, or the honey-banana ayurvedic dc. Rinse with cool water.

Finally, I seal with shea butter or Vatika oil and twist! Sometimes the twists stay up under my beanie, sometimes I take them out and put my hair up in a ponytail or bun, and on the weekend, I usually wear a twist-out.

About once a  month, I’ll do a henna treatment.

So, that’s pretty much it! I will moisturize as needed during the week, especially if I wear my hair out. In twists, my hair doesnt dry out nearly as fast! This is a very simple, but effective regimen. I want to start branching out and trying new herbs and oils in my mix, but I just havent gotten around to it yet. Below are some pictures of my journey, enjoy!

Ayurvedic Challenge 2012: Henna Day Video!

Close-up of the twist-out! Loved it!

Hello everyone! Here is the (long overdue) henna video! I tried to explain everything as well as I could, but I didn’t want to ramble, so if you have any questions, just let me know! Check out the video, and the picture of the AWESOME twist-out I got! I simply twisted with a VERY small amount of coconut oil, and it was the best one yet! Soft, and fluffy, instead of my usual oily mess. LOL! Enjoy, and of course, comment and subscribe!
