DIY: Honey-Banana Ayurvedic DC!
Hello everyone! I got back in the kitchen yesterday and did some mixing! I was just going to do a simple honey and olive oil conditioner, but I saw two bananas getting old, and thought a DC would be a better use for them! Well, honestly I thought about banana bread first, but 2 just isn’t enough, so DC it was! If you don’t know, bananas are a great ingredient for natural hair! Bananas help restore moisture and protect the elasticity of the hair, reducing breakage and split ends. Bananas also add shine and volume.
I also added Brahmi powder and Bringrahj oil to my mix because I’ve been seriously slacking with the ayurvedic love for my hair. Brahmi is known to strengthen hair roots to reduce shedding, controls premature graying, and controls dandruff when used on the scalp. Bhringraj helps stimulate hair growth, and strengthens hair roots. Here is the recipe I made up, y’all know I never measure.
Honey-Banana Ayurvedic DC
2 medium (very ripe) bananas
about 1/4 cup of honey
about 1 Tbsp olive Oil
about 2 Tsp Castor oil
about 1 Tsp Brahmi powder
about 1 Tsp Bhringraj oil
enough aloe vera juice to make it blend smoothly
I threw it all in my little mini blender and…
I coated my hair with the mixture, sat around with a plastic cap on for a while (about 1.5 episodes of America’s Next Top Model), then went ahead and rinsed.
This worked well, EXCEPT My hair felt a little… waxy. That’s the only way to describe the feeling. Which was annoying because it took more time to detangle, and it already takes a while to detangle since I’m not using silicones -__- . I have no idea what that was from. It had to have been the bananas because my hair doesn’t feel that way when I use avocados. I’ll have to investigate more.
Other than that, I loved this DC! It was very easy to make, my hair was shiny and fluffy, and my curls were poppin! I’ll definitely use it again with some tweaking to see if I can get rid of that waxy feeling.
Have any of you tried using bananas in a DC? What were your results?
